Practical Advice on Planning for a Vista Migration

When Microsoft first announced and then launched Microsoft® Windows Vista™, the general consensus within the industry was that organizations would begin to seriously consider migrating to the new operating system in 2008 (which may or may not have been coincident with the expected release of Windows Vista SP1). And the latest research seems to indicate that the wisdom of the mob back then was correct. In November, 2007, Forrester Research declared that “Windows Vista adoption has officially begun.” They went on to explain that of the firms they surveyed, 2% of machines had Vista running. Now, while that figure is admittedly rather small, they also believe that people should “think of it as the snowflakes before the storm,” as they expect almost 50% of companies to have either begun migrating or preparing to migrate by the end of 2008.
